Lancaster- Body Cam Footage Shows Man Rushed with Knife to Officer Lead to Shooting

From Body Cam Footage

Wide protests had erupted after Lancaster City police shot and killed a man in the 300 block of Laurel Street at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

According to police the victim has been identified as 27-year-old Ricardo Munoz.

Police say an officer responded to a home in Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, for a report of a domestic disturbance Sunday afternoon. A woman called 911 to say her brother was reportedly becoming aggressive with his mother and attempting to break into her house.

Police say Munoz was armed with a knife at the time of the shooting and they have body cam footage of the shooting that has been turned over to the Lancaster District Attorney's office.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave.

The body cam video released on the murder shows that when the officer gets in front of a residence in the 300 block of Laurel Street, Munoz immediately emerges from inside and runs toward the officer, brandishing a knife above his head, in clear view, in a threatening manner. The officer then fired. No one else was struck by gunfire. To repeat, the incident is under investigation. We do intend to release all findings from the investigation once completed.

Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams released a statement saying, "A police-involved shooting has significant impact on a community, as we are seeing with the large number of individuals gathering in the streets. However, I am asking that all reaction be tempered as the investigation is ongoing."

Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace also released a statement,"This has been a heartbreaking day for our city. I grieve for the loss of life and know that there are more questions to be answered as the investigation continues."
