Hundreds of Protesters "Celebrate" Portland Mayor's Birthday with Fire and Demanded his Resign

Hundreds of protesters celebrated the birthday of  Mayor, Ted Wheeler, by treating him with fire and tear gas and demanded his resign by massive riots outside the Northwest Portland home of Mayor.

More than 200 people on Monday night marched to the Pearl District condominium tower where Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler lives to demand his resignation.

“Happy tear gas, war crimes Wheeler/Happy tear gas to you,” they sang to the tune, “Happy Birthday.”

The demands of the resignation of Mayor is ongoing after a man was shot and killed in downtown Portland during a car caravan in support of President Donald Trump over the weekend. Several civil rights groups have called for Wheeler to step down.

This time protesters launched fireworks and smashed out the windows and tried to set the place on fire. Evidently this was the mayor’s birthday, and this was the party antifa threw for him.

A garbage can was lit on fire in the middle of the street and then it turned into a party atmosphere as protesters danced to the "Macarena." Protesters then added other pieces of furniture to the flames and started another fire in the street.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a bundle of newspapers was set ablaze and thrown into a ground-floor storefront in the residential building.

Around the same time, police arrived and warned over a loudspeaker that the gathering had been declared an unlawful assembly, then a riot. Officers ordered people to leave to the west.

Some damage to a building on Northwest Glisan and 10th was observed.

Demonstrators have gathered several times at the mayor’s condo in the Pearl District to protest racial injustice since the death of George Floyd while in custody of police in Minneapolis last May.

The mayor said he had no plans to do so.
