10 Died after a 3-storeyed Building Collapse in Maharashtra, India

 The death toll in a multi-storeyed building collapse in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra has risen to 10. Twenty-five people are still suspected to be trapped in the rubble. The three-storeyed building at Patel Compound in Bhiwandi collapsed at around 3.40 am on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the collapse of the building. He tweeted that all possible help is being given to the victims.

A spokesman for the Thane Municipal Corporation quoted national media as saying that 31 people, including a child, had been rescued by the National Disaster Response Force and locals. They are being treated at the hospital. Forty rescue workers, including 30 members of the National Disaster Response Force, are searching for those trapped inside the buildings.

NDRF Director General Satyanarayana Pradhan tweeted that the rescue operation was being carried out using special equipment and sniffer dogs. It is reported that about 20 families lived inside the 40-year-old building.
