Kenosha Shooting : Jacob Blake is paralyzed from the waist down, his father says

Jacob Blake is suffering paralysis from the waist down after being shot several times by a Kenosha police officer according to his father .Blake's father, Jacob Blake Sr., was unsure if the paralysis is permanent or whether his son would recover some movement in the future.

Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, shot by police in front of his children at close range Sunday evening as he tried to enter an SUV .

In a video posted earlier on social media that appeared to show the shooting from across a street, three officers could be seen shouting and pointing their weapons at Blake as he walked around the front of a parked SUV. As Blake opened the driver's side door and leaned inside, one officer grabbed his shirt from behind and then fired into the vehicle.

Seven shots could be heard on the video, though it was unclear if more than one officer fired.

The shooting comes amid heightened tensions in the US over racism and police brutality following the death of African-American man George Floyd earlier this year.

Following the shooting, the injured man was flown to a hospital in Milwaukee. He remained in intensive care late Monday. He is suffering from paralysis from the waist down, his father, Jacob Sr., told CNN, but he wasn't sure if the condition is permanent.

Wide protests have been erupted in Winconsin, hundreds of people marched on police headquarters on Sunday night. Vehicles were set on fire and protesters shouted "We won't back down".

Early in the morning on Monday, August 24, CBS 58 crews saw burned out garbage trucks, vandalized businesses and saw authorities blocking the area around the Kenosha County Courthouse. 

Police responded with force overnight as demonstrators torched cars and set buildings ablaze in Kenosha, Wisconsin, demanding justice in the shooting of Jacob Blake.
