Siberian Tiger Kills a Female Zookeeper in Switzerland

A Siberian tiger has killed a female zookeeper in Switzerland inside an enclosure . The tragic incident occurred in front of visitors in front of visitors and zoo employees on Saturday.

Staffs rushed to their colleague’s aid and eventually managed to draw the tiger, named Irina,  out of the cage but the 55 year old zookeeper died at the scene, Zurich zoo said.

 “Sadly all help came too late. The woman died at the scene,” Zurich police spokeswoman Judith Hoedl said.

An investigation is underway to determine why the keeper was in the enclosure at the same as the tiger, Hoedl said.

Dresden said the the zookeeper had been a long term member of the zoo staff.

Irina was born in2015 at a zoo in the Danish City of Odense and transferred to Zurich a year back. Zurich zoo director Severinb Dressen said that Irina behaved normally before the attack.

The zoo, which only recently reopened following the corona virus shutdown, will remain closed on Sunday.

Visitors and colleagues who witnessed the attack were receiving psychological counseling,Dressen said.
