FDA Warns the Usage of these 9 Harmful Toxic Hand Sanitizers
“ Methanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects,” said the agency.
On Friday, the agency said it had tested samples of two products, Lavat Gel and Clean Care No Germ and found they had 81% and 28% methanol, also known as wood alcohol.
Symptoms of methanol poisoning include nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness and seizures and finally may lead to coma. The damage to the nervous system could be possible and may cause death, the FDA said.
“Consumers should dispose of these products immediately in hazardous waste containers. Don’t flush or pour these products down the drain,” FDA added.
